Islanders Split Houston Doubleheader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Houston, Texas - Texas A&M-Corpus Christi went 1-1 in the second day of play in the Houston Invitational. In the first game of the day, the Islanders defeated Mississippi Valley State for the second time 3-2. The Islanders later fell to tournament host, University of Houston, 6-0. 

Game One
With Kandace Johnson in the circle, the Islanders defeated MIssissippi Valley State 3-2 in the first game on Saturday. Johnson tied her season-high strikeouts with 4. At the plate, Kaylee Hoppens hit her first home run of the season in the first inning. Hoppens went 2-for-4 at the plate, both hits RBI's.

>> Keagan Helson hit a sacrifice fly up the middle to score Jackson 
>> The Blue and Green ended the inning with the lead 3-0

>> J. Afoa-Tuia doubled to right center before advancing to third on a fly ball caught by center field
>> J. Afoa-Tuia scored on a wild pitch making the score 3-1

-Bottom of the Fifth
>> Mississippi Valley State turned a double play getting Katrina Jackson out and Kandace Johnson

-Top of the Sixth
>> M. Sandoval pinch ran for Afoa-Tuia advancing to second on a wild pitch and scoring on a fielding error 

Game Two
In the second game of Saturday's play, Corpus Christi fell to tournament host, University of Houston 6-0. The Cougars outhit the Islanders 10-2. Ashley Smith started the game in the circle striking out 4 batters out of the 25 she faced. Alexis Tovar came into pitch in the 5th inning.

>> U of H finished the inning with 3 runs, 4 hits, 0 errors, and 3 left on base

-Bottom of the Sixth
>> With Alexis Tovar in the circle, Howie homered to left field scoring Thomas making the score 6-0

On the last day of the Houston Invitational, the Islanders will face Southern at 12:30 p.m. before playing Houston again at 3 p.m.
