Baseball Opens Chapman Schedule Against UHV

Islanders face Jaguars in Chapman, in search of sixth straight win

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Riding a five-game win streak, and an undefeated weekend at the Kleberg Bank College Classic, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi looks to continue its current run against UH-Victoria this Wednesday. The Islanders have split their last two home-and-home series with the Jaguars, but are undefeated in their previous two matchups with UHV at Chapman Field.

>> Four hitters were named to the KBCC All-Tournament team this past weekend, with Martinez earning an MVP honor
>> Harrison DiNicola is on a four-game hitting streak for Corpus Christi, hitting .500 over that period of time

>> Islander starting pitchers Dustin Lacaze and Aaron Hernandez had career days in their starts against Nicholls and UC Santa Barbara, tallying eight and 12 strikeouts respectively 
>> Lacaze went two outs short of a complete game, while giving up a single unearned run. Hernandez tossed 6.1 frames without an earned run to tally a win of his own, as the two combined for a 0.00 ERA and 14.2 IP
>> Freshman Leo Perez will making his first start for the Islanders on the mound this Wednesday, looking to continue the Blue and Green's starter streak of five games with three or less earned runs against
>> The Corpus Christi pitching staff currently ranks first in the Southland Conference with just 23 runs allowed, 48 hits allowed and a miniscule .219 batting average against

>> Chase Almendarez leads the Jaguars in almost every major offensive category, slashing .370/.485/.815 and hitting three home runs with eight RBI
>> The Islanders are expected to face freshman righty Alec Cruz on the mound, after the first-year Jaguar made a pair of starts against TAMIU earlier this year
>> While UH-Victoria is batting just .211 on the season, they have held opponents to a .244 average, while holding an earned run against average of 3.58
