Opening Day for Weekend Tourney on the Island

Box Score CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas- Opening day for this weekend's four-team-tournament took place today on the Island, with the the Blue and Green slating off against Nebraska-Omaha at 10 a.m. Omaha played right after, as they faced Utah State at 1 p.m. To finish Friday's match-ups, Utah State took on Texas Southern.

Game One

The Islanders fell to the Mavericks 2-0 in the first game of the day. The teams tied in hits 5-5 but the 3 errors from Corpus Christi allowed Nebraska-Omaha to score 2 in the 5th inning and take the lead to win the game. Freshman, Alexis Tovar took the circle to start the game with Ashely Smith coming in in the 5th inning. Alexis Tovar recorded 3 strikeouts during the game, a new season high. 9th in the line up, Destiney Diaz, went 2-for-2 at the plate with the highest number of hits from the team this Friday.

>> The Islanders went three up, three down on the defensive side to start off the game

-Bottom of the Third
>>Avery Ratcliff singled to left field before Destiney Diaz did the same, advancing Ratcliff to second

-Top of the Fifth
>>After Dobbs doubled to center field, Hampton walked
>>Mostek singled up the middle scoring Burchfield (pr) and advancing Hampton to second
>> Both runners advanced on a pass ball
>> Ashley Smith came in to pitch for Alexis Tovar
>> Hampton scored on a wild pitch 
>>The last batter struck out looking to end the inning

Game Two & Three

After a win against the Islanders, the Mavericks fell to the Aggies 5-3. Omaha took the lead early in the game with 3 runs in the top of the second inning shortly before Utah State answered. After the win for Utah State, they went to defeat Texas Southern 7-0. 


COMING UP NEXT
The Blue and Green get ready to take on Utah State at 1:00 p.m. & Nebraska-Omaha for a rematch at 3:15 p.m. on Saturday before facing Texas Southern on Sunday at 1 p.m.
