CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Texas A&M Corpus Christi softball heads out to Hammond, La., this weekend to play in the three-day, five team Lion Classic hosted by Southeastern Louisiana University. The Islanders step on the field Friday at 5 p.m. against hosts Southeastern Louisiana before competing in a pair of doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday.
The Blue and Green kicked off the 2018 season in San Antonio, Texas at the UTSAÂ classic going 1-2 against Seton Hall and Southern Illinois University.Â
Whitney Wendel recorded her first homerun of the season, while teammate Keagen Helson marks her second tater of the year, in the Blue and Green's second matchup with Seton Hall this past Saturday.

>> Southeastern Louisiana return 18 letterwinners from last year including key players in the outfield; Kinsey Nichols (.393, 44 hits, 31 runs, 15 SB) and at shortstop; Jaquelyn Ramon (.320, 40 runs, 48 hits, 54 SB)

>> Returning pitcher, Brooklin Lee, was nominated for OVC Pitcher of the Year along with being named one of the three players to watch in the conference in 2018

>> Returning shortstop, Courtney Gilbert, made First Team All-Horizon League while leading the team in almost every offensive category (.548, 57 hits, 13 doubles, 3 triples, 34 RBI, 3 home runs)

WHEN: Sunday 10 am
