KYLE, Texas - After some cold weather postponed Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's second round on Monday, the Islanders finished off their spring season-opener at the Texas State Invitational in 14th place.
After working through a difficult second, junior
Alex Amos came roaring back with a five-over round to finish off the this week's invite and tie with teammate
Autumn Bynum for the top Islander performance. The pair both finished at 22-over for the two-day event, tying nine other athletes for 52nd overall, while Amos' result was just two off her season best of 20-over during the Pat Bradley Invitational in the fall.Â
Sophomore
Brooklyn Sutton would move a few spaces up the leaderboard as well on Tuesday, after hitting seven over par with a pair of birdies in round three. Sutton finished in a tie for 66th overall with teammate
Dani Bergmann, recording stroke counts of 81, 78 and 78 over the course of the tournament.Â
The Islanders shot 315 as a team in their final round, to close out their spring-opener at 938 and finish ahead of Southland rivals Stephen F. Austin and McNeese State. All five Islanders finished within the top-80 individually, one of 10 programs to do so this week, in a field of 17. Â
