FRISCO, Texas – The Southland Conference announced the February's Golfer of the Month Wednesday and
Elsa Tornvall of the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi golf team grabbed the honors to open the spring season.
Tornvall delivered a career-defining performance on her home course, capturing her first collegiate individual title to headline a strong showing at the Islanders Collegiate Invitational as the team placed third.
It was the second year in a row that the Islanders produced the title winner in their home tournament, with Tornvall being the runner-up last season. She shaved three strokes from the 2025 performance to win it herself this year.
Tornvall set the tone early, firing a 70 (-2) in the opening round to surge to the top of the leaderboard. In the second round, she kept herself in contention with a 76 (+4) score and with the individual title within reach, the senior delivered a composed 75 (+3) in the final round for a three-day total of 221 (+5) to secure the first win of her collegiate career.
"I am so proud of how Elsa played at our home tournament," said head coach
Chris Adams. "It is so hard to win a college tournament, and for it to be her first ever means more having it been done at home."
The Islanders have just two tournaments remaining before they head back to the conference tournament where they are coming off the title last season that saw them punch their ticket to the NCAA Tournament.
