Key Islander Sequences
- The first set included 12 ties and four lead changes but it was the Islanders who came out on top after a late rally. Tied 22-22, Simon and Young each recorded kills of assists from Green to give the Islanders double set point. After an A&M-Corpus Christi attacking error, the Wildcats had a chance to tie things up. But ACU's Jacey Smith's serve found the net and the Islanders took the opening set, 25-23.
- The Wildcats got off to a strong start in the second set, jumping to an 11-3 lead. But the Islanders quickly turned the tables and would answer right back with an 11-3 run of their own to the the set, 14-14. Young put away four kills and ACU helped by committing three ball handling errors. The two teams would remain close as the set eventually would even back out at 18-18. But a pair of Krenek service aces helped propel A&M-Corpus Christi to the win as the Islanders would score seven of the next 11 points to close out the set and take a 2-0 advantage.
- In the third set, ACU stayed close and would tie the match, 21-21, on a kill from Marybeth Sandercox. But the Islanders got back-to-back kills from Green and van Velthooven to make it 23-21. A block from Dumity and Green extended the lead to 24-21, giving A&M-Corpus Christi three match points. The Wildcats would get the next two points to make it 24-23 but Dumity ended the match with a kill off a feed from Green.
