WACO, Texas - The Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi men's tennis team picked up a solid doubles victory at ITA Texas Regional Championships on Saturday.
Thomas Rodrigues Lopes and
William Mottet won their first round doubles match at Baylor University in Waco, Texas. The ITA Texas Regional is widely regarded as one of the most competitive regional sites in the nation in both the men's and women's competitions. It is the largest college tennis tournament in the state of Texas.
Rodrigues and Lopes started the day with an 8-5 victory over Texas A&M's duo of Jack Pulliam and Kevin Lam. In the second round against Abilene Christian's Josh Sheehy and Jonathan Sheehy, the Islanders came up just short, falling 8-4.
The men now turn their attention to the home Contender CrossFit Islander Open which was rescheduled from earlier this fall. The event starts on Friday, Oct. 26, in Corpus Christi, Texas.
As a program, the Islanders have reached 10 NCAA Tournaments in program history and captured 22 Southland titles in the last 12 years.
