Corpus Christi, Texas - Texas A&M-Corpus Christi looks to use its loss at Rice on Sunday as a learning experience, as the Blue and Green set out to face a less experienced Texas State roster on Thursday. The Islanders came up short against an Owls side toting six upperclassmen in their starting lineup, but this week's showdown in San Marcos not only features a younger Bobcats team, but a few familiar faces as well.

SERIES HISTORY
  • The Islanders are 0-2-0 against Texas State, dropping a 3-1 decision to the Bobcats at Dugan (9/4/15) and a 2-0 finish at San Marcos (8/29/14)
  • Brooke Erdmann and Christina Remmes are the only two players on the current Islander roster with experience against the Bobcats. Seven players on the current Texas State roster played against the Blue and Green in 2015, with four of them earning starts
  • Texas State is the only Sun Belt team the Blue and Green has seen during its five seasons of competition
  • As a former member of the Southland Conference, Texas State holds a 103-39-13 against current SLC members not including Texas A&M-Corpus Christi
FRIENDLY FOES
  • All 26 of Texas State's players come from, and played high school soccer, in the state of Texas, while 22 of Corpus Christi's 28 did the same
  • Islander freshman Cameron Lucas will be reunited with former Cedar Ridge High School teammate Sydney Kammer in San Marcos this weekend. Both played for a Cedar Ridge team that won four consecutive South Texas State Championships, and competed alongside Corpus Christi freshman Mariah Ramon at the club level (Austin Texans)
  • Bobcats freshman Cameron Hart will be reacquainted with Islander sophomore Chayse Bauer, as the two both graduated from Wakeland High School in Frisco, Texas.
THE ISLANDERS
  • The Islanders' loss to Rice is just the second time they've lost to the Owls in program history
  • Sophomore Ashley Hamilton recorded the Blue and Green's lone shot on goal against Rice, and was the only non-freshman to record an attempt on net in Houston on Sunday for Texas A&M-Corpus Christi
  • In their first-ever fall match against St. Edward's, the Islanders defeated the Hilltoppers 1-0 on a 90th minute goal from redshirt-senior forward Brooke Erdmann
  • The Blue and Green is 4-4-1 over its past eight outings, and 3-3-1 when counting just regular season contests.
  • After being held without a shot in the season opener Erdmann will look to get back on her hot streak this weekend. The redshirt-senior scored the Islanders' only goal of the preseason and ended 2016 with three goals in three matches.
  • Corpus Christi dropped its opening preseason match against Baylor 2-0, but kept the match at a goal differential of one into the 85th minute
  • With five saves in the season opener at Rice, Flax leads her squad in stops and ranks fourth in the Southland Conference concerning saves per match (5.00/gm)
  • The Islanders faced tougher competition than any other team in the Southland Conference this past week, as the Owls finishing 2016 with an RPI ranking of No. 51
SCOUTING TEXAS STATE
  • Texas State's match against the Islanders will be the third of a four match home stand, after losing to Northern Arizona 2-0 and completing a 1-1 draw against Louisiana Tech after double overtime.
  • The Bobcats have been outshot 15-10 in both of their opening contests, while steering just five shots on goal for the year.
  • Senior Brooke Ramsey has tallied the Bobcats only goal of the season thus far, scoring on a single shot against Louisiana Tech.
  • HC Kat Conner has mixed up her starting 11 over the past two matches with a combination of 15 players. Eight freshmen have earned starts this year, along with six seniors.
  • The Bobcats harbor a mixture of experience and youth, with 15 returners from the previous season and 11 new faces joining the side.
  • Rachel Grout tied for a team-high in goals last season (3), and assisted on the Ramsey goal at La. Tech last week.
  • Texas State's draw with the Bulldogs was their sixth match in the last two years to go to double overtime.
  • In just her second season with the Bobcats, goalkeeper Heather Martin already ranks eighth in program history with 66 saves.
