FRISCO, Texas – After wrapping up their careers on the diamond,
Liz Carter and
Mackinzee Griebel were honored for their work in the classroom as the senior duo was named Southland Conference First Team All-Academic. The pair of selections marks the fourth consecutive year that a Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball player has been honored.
Carter capped her career as the second best pitcher in program history, next only to All-American Sarah Pauly. The Austin native struck out a career best 179 batters, which ranked fifth in program history. Carter finished the season with a 3.36 ERA in 204 innings of work. The Islanders ace also chipped in at the plate with a .206 batting average and a team-high 15 RBI.
An active member with the Islanders Student-Athletes Activities Committee and the AMCC Student Government, Carter graduated in May with a degree in Psychology, posting a 3.87 GPA. She will pursue her master's degree in Intercollegiate Athletic Leadership.
Griebel, who played in 187 of a possible 197 games over four seasons, led the team in batting with a .324 average this season. The Lockhart native notched the 10th longest hitting streak in program history during her senior campaign. Griebel also set the school record for fewest strikeouts in a season in 2016 with six.
With a GPA of 3.96, Griebel completed her degree in Pre-Allied Health Science in May. She will pursue her doctorate in Physical Therapy at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio.
