CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The final home event of the South Texas Showdown presented by NavyArmy Community Credit Union arrives on the Island Tuesday night as Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball hosts rival UTRGV at 6 p.m.
The first 250 fans in attendance at Chapman Field will receive a free t-shirt as the Islanders host the Vaqueros for the fourth of five meetings this season. The Islanders have clinched the title in the inaugural season of the South Texas Showdown, currently holding a 36-19 edge on UTRGV.
For Corpus Christi, the rivalry game kicks off a pivotal week as the Blue and Green welcomes Stephen F. Austin for a Southland Conference series over the weekend.
The Islanders and Vaqueros have already met three times this season, all coming in a series played at UTRGV in early March. The Blue and Green swept the series with a 4-1 win on Saturday before earning a pair of victories in a Monday doubleheader.
Corpus Christi has now won the past seven meetings between the two clubs.
Tuesday's matchup marks the first time the two have met in Corpus Christi this season. In last season's battles at Chapman Field, the Islanders claimed 5-4 and 3-0 victories over the Vaqueros.
Right-handed senior
Brian Allec will start for the Islanders. Allec has appeared in two games this season and worked a total of three innings for the Islanders.
UTRGV will counter with right-hander Andrew Padron. The Vaquero has appeared in 13 games and owns a 3.20 ERA in 19 2/3 innings of action.
