CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Rashawn Thomas and
Ehab Amin were both named First Team All-Southland performers as well as landing on the All-Defensive Team.
For Thomas, it's his third appearance on the All-Southland teams and second consecutive season on the first team. The senior finished the year leading the conference in scoring and rebounding, averaging 21,4 points per game and 8.6 rebounds. The massive offensive output ranks 13th in the entire country as Thomas put forth his best season on the Island.
Amin is making his first appearance on the All-Southland squads after a banner year in his junior campaign. The guard averaged 17.5 points per game on the season while also crashing the glass as one of the best rebounding guards in the nation. Amin pulled down 6.7 boards per contest to finish second on the team behind Thomas.
In Southland games, both Thomas and Amin elevated their game as Thomas averaged a whopping 24.6 points per game and Amin 18.3. Both also created havoc on the defensive end in 2016-17, earning spots on the Southland All-Defensive Team.
Amin finished the regular season leading the nation in steals. The junior set a school record with 98 swipes this season, averaging 3.4 steals per game. Amin's 98 steals rank amongst the top five single seasons in Southland history.
Thomas landed a spot on the All-Defensive Team for a second consecutive season. The forward blocked 53 shots and added another 44 steals down low. Both numbers put Thomas in the top 10 of the Southland Conference. Over the course of the season, Thomas set the school records for scoring, rebounding and blocked shots.
Amin and Thomas will lead the Islanders into the Southland Conference Tournament on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. as the Blue and Green earned the No. 2 seed and a double-bye into the semifinals.
