Men's Basketball to Face No. 5 New Orleans in SLC Quarterfinals

LAKE CHARLES, La. – After a first-round bye, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's basketball team will take fresh legs into the quarterfinal round against fifth-seeded New Orleans Monday at 5 p.m. to begin their campaign in the 2026 Southland Conference Tournament.

The Islanders secured the No. 4 seed after the regular season finale, finishing on a three-game winning streak mixed with the help of some other results across the league to earn the first-round bye to the quarterfinals. They will face a New Orleans team after the Privateers defeated No. 8 HCU in the first round Sunday.

The last time the Islanders were the No. 4 seed was in 2021-22, head coach Jim Shaw's first year on staff, where they went on to win three games in three days to win the program's second-ever conference tournament title and bid to the NCAA Tournament.

The Islanders will look to repeat that success with Shaw now heading the program for his third year. Every year since that season, the Islanders have finished top-five in the league and has been the only team in the entire conference to do so.

The winner will move on to face No. 1 SFA in the semifinals Tuesday at 6 p.m., which will be nationally streamed on ESPNU.
