CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – A pair of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi standouts received All-District recognition from the National Association of Basketball Coaches as
Rashawn Thomas garnered First Team honors and
Ehab Amin earned a spot on the Second Team for District 23.
The pair of selections marks the second time in the past three years the Islanders have placed multiple players on the prestigious list. For Thomas, it's his third appearance on the NABC All-District team after earning Second Team honors in 2014-15 and First Team recognition in 2015-16.
Both Thomas and Amin produced impressive seasons to lead the Islanders to the Sunday's quarterfinals of the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament for the first time in program history. The pair were also selected to the All-Southland First Team for their outstanding performances.
With his selection to the first team,
Rashawn Thomas is eligible for the NABC All-American ballot. In his senior season, Thomas has averaged a career-high 22.5 points per game and 8.6 rebounds. The forward ranks 10th in the nation in scoring this season while leading the Southland.
Thomas has claimed six career records this season, notably becoming the Islanders all-time leading scorer, rebounder and shot blocker. He has now scored 1,964 points in his four years wearing the blue and green and has a chance to become the first 2,000-point scorer in program history. His 212 career blocks rank amongst the top 10 in Southland Conference history.
Amin added another 17.1 points per game to pace the Islanders offensively alongside Thomas. The junior guard has put forth his best season yet on the Island with his gaudy offensive production along with 6.6 rebounds per contest to make him one of the best rebounding guards in the country.
Best known for his tenacious defense, Amin leads the Southland and is second in the nation with 3.33 steals per game. His 110 steals this season are the most by an Islander in a single season and the second most in Southland Conference history. Amin has also claimed the Islanders career steals record as he has racked up 204 career thefts.
