Islanders Face Ranked Opponent at Ragin' Cajuns Invitational

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Wrapping up its program record 18-game road swing to start a season, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi hits the road for a final non-conference tournament this weekend, before returning to the Coastal Bend next week.
 
The Islanders (3-10) travel to the Ragin' Cajuns Invitational to face host No. 18/19 Louisiana, North Dakota State and Alcorn State.
 
Corpus Christi enters the weekend after defeating UTSA on Wednesday, 3-2. The Islanders picked up nine hits and drove in a pair of runs before scoring the winning run in the top of the seventh on a failed back pick to third.
 
Liz Carter (3-5) earned the win over the Roadrunners with a five-hitter. She has a pair of shutouts this season, which ranks 19th in the country. The Austin native has a 3.02 ERA with 35 punchouts on the campaign.
 
Freshman Lacey Boyd has come on strong in recent games, taking over the team lead in hitting with a .458 clip. The rookie has a season-long six-game hitting streak, including a pair of 3-for-4 performances at the South Alabama Invitational last week.
 
LOUISIANA
>> The Islanders are 3-9 against the Ragin' Cajuns.
>> Louisiana is off to a solid start at 11-4, including a pair of wins over no. 4 Alabama, earning a ranking of No. 18/19.
>> The Ragin' Cajuns rank 13th in the nation in scoring with 7.4 runs per game, led by DJ Sanders with 17 RBI.
 
NORTH DAKOTA STATE
>> The Bison and Islanders square off for the first time in program history.
>> NDSU is 4-10 this season with wins over Ole Mill, Ball State, Abilene Christian and the College of Charleston.
>> Pitching has guided the Bison through the early stages of the year with a staff ERA of 1.65, which ranks 24th in the nation. Jacquelyn Sertic is 10th in the country in punchouts with 73 this season.
 
ALCORN STATE
>> Saturday will be the first meeting between the Islanders and the Braves.
>> Alcorn 3-7 this season, knocking off Kentucky State twice, as well as Buffalo.
>> Jessica Crum is hitting .536 on the season with 12 RBI and a .929 slugging percentage.
