CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – After a rained out weekend, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball team will finally open Southland Conference action this weekend with a three-game series at Southeastern Louisiana. The Islanders will play the Lady Lions at 5 p.m. on Friday and wrap up the series with a doubleheader on Saturday at 12 and 2 p.m.
Â
Despite pushing back last week's series with Stephen F. Austin three days, the Islanders (5-15) saw their league-opening weekend washed out at Chapman Field.
Â
Pitcher
Liz Carter continues to rank just outside the top 100 in strikeouts with 56 on the season. The Austin native is second in program history with 421 punchouts in her career.
Â
Freshman
Lacey Boyd holds the team lead with a .333 clip at the plate. Carter and rookie
Kandace Johnson sit atop the team with five RBI apiece.
Â
Corpus Christi has a 14-6 lead over the Lady Lions in the series history. Friday will be the first meeting between the two programs since 2015.
Southeastern Louisiana is 9-15 overall this season and 0-3 in Southland play after being swept by Abilene Christian last weekend. The Lady Lions are led by Carlie Whittington at the plate with a .462 batting average. Mahalia Gibson has driven in a team-high 15 RBI on a .426 slugging percentage.
