CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball team ventures to San Antonio on Wednesday for a midweek clash with UTSA at 6 p.m.
The Islanders (2-10) return to Texas after playing at the South Alabama Invitational over the weekend. Across five games, the Blue and Green tallied 25 hits, including a season-high 10 against Tennessee Tech in a 4-3 loss on Saturday.
On a pair of occasions, the freshman class helped erase a mid-innings deficit with an RBI single.
Lacey Boyd put Corpus Christi ahead of Tech in the bottom of the third on Saturday, 3-2, with a single to left. The Golden Eagles rallied in the top of the sixth with two runs to win the game.
On Sunday, rookie
Lexi Shaw smashed a ball of the wall in left for an RBI double to tie Middle Tennessee in the top of the sixth, but the Blue Raiders countered in the bottom half with a run of their own to win 2-1.
Lacey Boyd emerged with a .571 batting average (8-for-14) over the weekend, including a pair of 3-for-4 outings. Taking over the team lead, Boyd is now hitting .455 on the year with an RBI.
The pitching staff of
Liz Carter and
Kandace Johnson kept the Islanders within reach of their opponents in South Alabama. Combined, the two hurlers notched an ERA of 1.97 with 17 strikeouts.
