CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The current Islanders rallied from behind to earn the Islander Blue Collar Cup in the annual Islander Alumni Match on Wednesday Night. Islanders tennis both old and new put on quite a show thanks to the support of the Matt Robinson Family.
The alumni got off to a fast start as the women's doubles teams swept the current Islanders. Celia Rodriguez,
Judit Vives,
Kerry Galhos and Stefania Nicolae provided a pair of points for the alumni in doubles action.
The Islander men quickly leveled with points in the second and third doubles matches, but
Aurelien Tave and
Paul Cook sent the alumni to a 3-2 advantage after doubles play with a tiebreaker victory over the Kellerman twins.
In the end, the current Islanders were able to rally back in singles play to earn an 8-7 victory over the alumni and capture the Islander Blue Collar Cup.
Louise Trigona won in a tiebreak over
Judit Vives and No. 1 singles to provide the clinching point.
The Islanders now return to match competition with the men heading to the UTSA Invitational this weekend while the women compete in the ITA Texas Regionals in Fort Worth.
