CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -- After his stellar performance through the first two months of the summer season, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi pitcher Chris Cooper earned one of the top honors in the Northwoods League by starting the 2016 All-Star Game Tuesday night. Meanwhile, outfielder Nick Anderson suited up in the first-ever Texas Collegiate League All-Star Game.
Playing with the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters, Cooper has lit up the Northwoods League in seven first-half starts. The rising junior leads the prestigious league with a miniscule 0.86 ERA, going 4-0 so far this summer.
Cooper helped the Rafters clinch the First-Half South Division Championship, earning the franchise's first-ever playoffs berth. In those seven starts, the right-hander has produced five quality starts and has given up no more than two earned runs. In total, Cooper has allowed just four earned runs in 42 innings of work. The Islander has held his opponents to just a .193 batting average this summer.
The Rafters are guaranteed a spot in the Northwoods Divisional Playoffs in mid-August. Cooper and the Rafters have 24 games left following the All-Star Break and currently sit a game back in the second-half standings.
In the Texas Collegiate League, outfielder Nick Anderson went 1-for-4 in the inaugural TCL All-Star Game. Anderson singled and scored a run for the Vermillion Reds squad, but the Reds fell 9-3 to the Bayou Blues.
This summer, Anderson is hitting .245 for the Victoria Generals with a .391 on-base percentage. The rising sophomore has 16 RBI and has walked 21 times in 33 games this summer. Both his RBI and walks total put the Islander second on the team in each category.
