CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi rising senior Rashawn Thomas will take part in a summer tour of New Zealand with nine other collegiate basketball players as a part of Athletes in Action.
The tour starts in Los Angeles on July 24 where the team will attend a five-day training camp to train for upcoming games and prepare for their cross-cultural experience. After California, Thomas and the team will head to New Zealand to play against university teams, club teams and the New Zealand Breakers.
"This is a great experience," Thomas said. "I'm excited to travel outside of the country and go help out the people in New Zealand. It will also be great to play against some different competition while we're there."
The trip will also consist of off-the-court experiences. The team will conduct youth camps, experience the local culture and see what many consider one of the most beautiful places on earth.
Thomas will be joined by a number of other Division I players, including Dallas Cameron (Stephen F. Austin), Evan Bradds (Belmont), Chris Collins (Texas A&M) and Xavier Moon (Morehead State).
This will be the second Athletes in Action event for Thomas this summer, who also participated in the program's Captains Academy in late May. There the Islander played with a number of top players from around the country while learning about what it takes to be a leader.
"It was a really good experience for me," Thomas said. "They taught me more about dealing with difficult situations and adversity. It will help me a lot for this upcoming season in growing as a leader."
