The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi volleyball team announced the addition of Mauri Carver to its staff as an assistant coach in April 2024.

No stranger to the conference, Carver joins the Islanders after spending the previous season as the volleyball assistant coach at New Orleans where her primary responsibilities entailed blocker development, middle hitter development, equipment, travel coordination, statistics, and scouting.

Carver simultaneously helped the Privateers’ Athletic Department in an academic capacity, providing academic services for women’s basketball, men’s & women’s tennis, men’s golf, and beach volleyball. While working with the University, Carver also coached for NOLA Volleyball where she designed and implemented training sessions tailored to individual and team needs, focusing on technical skills, tactical awareness, physical conditioning, and mental preparation.

“We have been lucky to have amazing assistant coaches here and I am excited to bring Mauri onto our staff to continue that tradition,” said head coach Steve Greene. “Mauri is very passionate about the sport and helping student-athletes become their best selves. She comes very highly recommended, and her references speak volumes on her loyalty, character, and honesty. She connected right away with [assistant coach Julia Carter] and I and we are excited to have her help our program rise to new heights.”

Carver will also bring her own standout career as a student-athlete to the role. She played three seasons at the University of Eastern Shore where she was voted team captain by her sophomore season with the Hawks. Carver was a 2018 MEAC All-Rookie Team selection before going on to lead that conference in total blocks and blocks per set in 2021. Carver played her final season with the Privateers where she finished fifth in the Southland in hitting percentage.

Tacking on accomplishments, she was a three-time Scholar-Athlete of the Year selection (2020-2023), a member of the Women’s Leader in College Sports Professional Organization, earned an NCAA Ethnic Minority Scholarship, and was selected to participate in the NCAA Career in Sports Forum.

“It is evident how embedded the Corpus Christi community is in Islanders Athletics,” said Carver. “The city is filled with Islander blue and green, and the on-campus involvement is no different. To learn alongside Steve who is knowledgeable about the game and passionate about the holistic development of athletes is an exciting opportunity. I am looking forward to working alongside Steve and Julia to continue the well-rounded development of high-level athletes, on and off the court.  I am excited to be an Islander!”

Carver graduated from the University of Eastern Shore in May 2022 with her bachelor's degree in Special Education before pursuing her master's in Higher Education Administration at New Orleans which she completed this past December. She hoisted a 4.0 GPA through both degrees.

Carver joins an Islanders Volleyball program that has won seven conference championships and have made four trips to the NCAA Tournament including three times under Greene.
