CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi volleyball team comes back home after a lengthy road trip this weekend, returning to the friendly confines of the Dugan Wellness Center to host McNeese on Saturday at 1 p.m.
The Islanders (3-9, 1-0 SLC) finally play in front of their own fans for the first time in three weeks, with their last home match coming all the way back on September 5 in the last match of the Southwest Showdown, presented by Texas Army National Guard. Since that date, they have made stops in Stephenville for the Tarleton State Invitational, Las Vegas for the Lucky Aces Invitational, and Louisiana for a pair of matches against Southern and Nicholls, the latter of which they secured the win in what was their first conference match of the year. This was one of three victories that the team tallied during their eight-game trip, with the others coming over Denver and Tarleton State.
A&M-Corpus Christi will now try to continue its nice start to Southland play against the Cowgirls (4-8, 0-1 SLC), who will be looking to pick up their first conference win after dropping their opener at home against UTRGV in straight sets. The Islanders have had McNeese's number in the matchup, holding a 22-6 record overall and winning 22 of the past 23 meetings dating back to 2011, with the only loss in that time frame coming in Lake Charles in 2022. In the most recent match between the two last October, they downed the Cowgirls on the road 3-1 (25-21, 26-28, 25-12, 25-19), doing so thanks in large part to an 11-kill, 20-dig double-double from
Kenna Buchanan and a 53-assist, 10-dig showing from
Virginia Van Der Werff in a performance that helped her win her fourth of five SLC Setter of the Week Awards throughout 2025.
