BATON ROUGE, La. – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi volleyball team continues its current road trip with a pair of contests in the middle of this week, concluding nonconference play with a matchup against Southern on Tuesday at 11 a.m. before starting its Southland schedule at the same time the next day against Nicholls in Thibodaux.
The Islanders (2-8) turn around quickly after having just wrapped up their run at the Lucky Aces Invitational in Las Vegas on Sunday, where they spent the weekend squaring off with a trio of strong opponents in Hawaii, UCLA and Iowa State. They will be looking to get back in the win column on Tuesday and close out nonconference with their third victory overall, with the other two coming at the Tarleton State Invitational the weekend before against Denver and the host Texans.
The first match of the week will see A&M-Corpus Christi reconnect with the Lady Jaguars (2-9) for the first time in more than 20 years, as the two last squared off all the way back on October 2, 2004. The Islanders emerged victorious in all four meetings between the two in the early 2000s, including wins in Baton Rouge in 2000, 2002 and 2004 mixed in with a victory in Corpus Christi in 2001. As for this year, Southern comes in having already faced three different Southland Conference opponents so far, defeating Southeastern Louisiana on the road but falling to HCU and Nicholls in neutral site tournament play.
After this, the Islanders make the quick ride over to Thibodaux for their conference opener against the Colonels (7-6) in a matchup they have historically dominated, holding an all-time record of 24-1 dating back to 2006 with 22 victories in a row, with their last defeat coming all the way back on November 8, 2008. In 2025, they took home a sweep by a final tally of 25-13, 25-16, 25-23 on the road, a performance that was led by a 14-kill, 12-dig double-double from
Kenna Buchanan, who was recently named to the Lucky Aces Invitational All-Tournament Team on Sunday.
