BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi soccer team hits the road for the first time in 2026 this upcoming week, traveling to the Golden State for a two-match swing that starts at Cal State Bakersfield on Thursday and continues for a matchup with Fresno State on Sunday.
The Islanders (3-0-2) head out of Corpus Christi having made history at home, remaining unbeaten through the first five matches of a season for the first time since the inception of the program in 2013. They have been led by the stellar performance of reigning Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week
Katie Porter, who scored in both of their matches against Sam Houston and Our Lady of the Lake last week to continue her streak of goal scoring up to a perfect five-for-five to kick things off. On the other side, the team has also had one of the stingiest defenses in the Southland, surrendering just four goals and tallying a pair of clean sheets. On the back line,
Mackenzie Mackreth nearly joined Porter with a conference recognition this week, earning an honorable mention for SLC Defensive Player of the Week after scoring the game-winning goal in the most recent match on Sunday.
In its trip to California, A&M-Corpus Christi takes on a pair of teams it does not have a lot of experience with, starting with a first-time matchup against the Roadrunners (0-4), who are still looking for their first victory of the season so far. As far as the Bulldogs (0-4), the Islanders will be seeking revenge for their first-ever meeting in 2025, when they were taken down at the Dr. Jack Dugan Family Soccer & Track Stadium in the first leg of the home-and-home series between the two.
