CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi soccer team looks to continue its strong opening to the 2026 season in more nonconference action on Thursday, rolling along with a matchup against Sam Houston at 7 p.m. at the Dr. Jack Dugan Family Soccer & Track Stadium.
The Islanders (2-0-1) last hit the pitch on Sunday morning, when they downed Prairie View A&M by a final score of 2-0 to secure their best three-game start in program history, surpassing their previous best of 2-1-0 from the 2022 campaign. In this match,
Katie Porter nabbed three more points with a goal and an assist, pushing her total up to eight to top the six that she had accumulated throughout the first three years and 51 matches of her entire collegiate career. Entering the weekend, Porter ranks second in the Southland Conference in points and first in points per game (2.67), and she was given an honorable mention for the most recent SLC Offensive Player of the Week after finishing behind only Isabella Burtini of UTRGV.
The upcoming meeting will provide A&M-Corpus Christi a chance to enact some revenge against the Bearkats (0-1-2) for the match between the two last year, when the team fell 3-2 in Huntsville despite fighting its way back from 1-0 and 2-1 deficits to tie things up two separate times. Even with this though, the Islanders did win the most recent matchup in Corpus Christi, emerging victorious 2-1 back on August 25, 2024. Coming into this matchup, Sam Houston has faced off against a different Southland foe so far in the young season, playing to a scoreless draw with Lamar that was sandwiched in between a 1-1 tie with Oklahoma State in its opener and a 5-0 loss to Texas A&M in its most recent match.
