CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi soccer team will look to continue its successful season-opening homestand over the weekend, playing its third of five straight matches at the Dr. Jack Dugan Family Soccer & Track Stadium against Prairie View A&M on Sunday at a new start time of 10 a.m.
The Islanders (1-0-1) picked up their first win of the 2026 season in their last time out last Sunday, catching fire on offense and downing Texas A&M International by a final score of 4-0. The team got contributions from all over its lineup in that match but especially from the newcomers to this year's roster, with
Zahria Fuller and
Natalie Nyberg netting their first goals in the blue and green and
Isabel McNeal and
Averi Scruggs dishing out their first assists. In addition,
Katie Porter stayed hot with a career-high three points on a goal and an assist, giving her five in total on the season to place her in a tie for fifth in the Southland Conference despite playing in one less match than the eight players either level with or in front of her.
A&M-Corpus Christi now tries to keep things rolling against the Panthers (0-2-0), a team that it has historically had a lot of success against, winning seven of the eight matches in the all-time series and outscoring its in-state opponents by a combined total of 25-3. This includes a rain-soaked match in Prairie View last year, when the Islanders earned the victory by a final of 1-0 after a game-winning penalty from
Cilia Leal Cardona in the 78
th minute. For Prairie View, Sunday's match will be its third in a row against a Southland team to open the year, having dropped the first two to UIW at home and UTRGV on the road.
