AUSTIN, Texas – The undefeated Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's and women's tennis teams will head to Austin this week as both face Concordia Friday at 11 a.m. before the men take on powerhouse Texas Saturday at 1 p.m.
Both teams are off to undefeated starts with the men 7-0 and the women 5-0 after an perfect opening week. It will be each team's first times facing off with Concordia as they meet Friday.
The men, however, will face a familiar foe in the Longhorns Saturday while in the capital city.
Texas reached the NCAA Championship semifinals last year, the NCAA Finals in 2024 and last won the national championship in 2019. The Islanders and Longhorns have battled four times in the NCAA Championships and two of those times the Islanders went into the NCAAs as a No. 3 seed. The teams last met in the 2023 NCAA Championships in Austin with the Longhorns winning a 4-0 decision.
The Islanders haven't dropped a point yet this year, with the men sweeping all their opponents in six 7-0 decisions and one 5-0 win. The women have posted five consecutive 7-0 complete sweeps to start the season.
For the women, four returners are 5-0 in singles play with
Yana Mykytyn and
Kseniya Ramanouskaya splitting their times between courts one and two while
Juliette Jalai and
Adriana Jimenez Casado are also undefeated in every match.
In doubles, those same four are 5-0 as pairs. Mykytyn/Ramanouskaya have defended No. 1 doubles while Casado/Jalai are 4-0 at No. 2 doubles plus a win at No. 3.
The men have seen a varied lineup throughout their matches but
Josef Zapletal has won every singles match this year for a 7-0 individual record showing his depth at courts two, three, five, and six.
