CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M–Corpus Christi women's tennis team continued its dominant start to the season Friday with a commanding 7-0 sweep of Texas A&M–Kingsville at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.
The Islanders (9-0) set the tone early in doubles and never let up, showcasing depth across the lineup once again as they have dropped merely one point across their nine matches played so far. Today, it came in a full 7-0 sweep over the Javelinas today.
A&M-Corpus Christi secured the doubles point with decisive wins on courts two and three.
Adriana Jimenez Casado and
Viktoriia Sedova rolled to a 6-1 victory, while
Juliette Jalai and
Emma Bousquet followed with a 6-2 decision to clinch the point. The duo of
Yana Mykytyn and
Kseniya Ramanouskaya capped the sweep with a 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles.
In singles, the Islanders carried that momentum into five straight-set victories and one gritty exception that embodied the team's fight.
Mykytyn was first off the court, overpowering her opponent 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. Jalai mirrored that intensity at No. 5, cruising 6-1, 6-1, while Casado matched the scoreline at No. 4 with a dominant 6-1, 6-1 performance.
Ramanouskaya delivered a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 3. On court one,
Leticia Tarocco controlled key rallies and closed out a 6-4, 6-3 victory to secure the fifth singles point. The final match of the day proved to be the toughest test. After dropping the first set 7-5, Bousquet responded with poise and determination, battling back for a 6-4 second-set win before edging 10-8 in the match tiebreak.
The Islanders remain undefeated at home as well, posting back-to-back home victories for the 2-0 advantage this season.
They will hit the road for a neutral match against Oral Roberts Monday and a road test at Rice next Thursday before returning home for the conference opener Feb. 28 against SFA.
