SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi soccer team heads back on the road this week after recently wrapping up a lengthy homestand, making a quick stop in San Antonio on Thursday to take on UIW at 7:30 p.m.
The Islanders (4-5-3, 1-2-1 SLC) make the trip up north after playing each of its last three matches at the Dr. Jack Dugan Family Soccer and Track & Field Stadium, earning four points in total with a draw with UTRGV back on September 24 followed by their first conference victory of the year against Southeastern Louisiana on October 1. The contest against the Lady Lions came in a hard-fought 1-0 decision, with the hosts jumping on the board in the first half on
Katie Porter's seventh goal of the season and then putting together a nice defensive effort in the second half to weather the storm and walk away with three points. This result was an important one for the blue and green, as it helped them jump into the important seventh seed in the Southland Conference standings with six conference matches left to be played.
A&M-Corpus Christi now faces a big test in the Cardinals (6-5-2, 3-1 SLC) on Thursday, who enter play at the top of the conference with nine points after earning victories over East Texas A&M, Southeastern and Northwestern State so far. Their victory over the Demons helped them earn two different conference honors on Monday, with forward Tyler Coker being named SLC Offensive Player of the Week and Hannah Alexander taking home Goalkeeper of the Week at the same time. In the all-time series, the Islanders find themselves all knotted up with UIW at a mark of 7-7-2 dating back to 2013, getting themselves to that mark with a massive victory in the regular season finale last year that helped them clinch their spot in the conference tournament.
