Islanders Volleyball Back On the Road to Face LSU New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi volleyball team returns to play tomorrow night to face LSU New Orleans on the road in Southland Conference play. The match is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. as the Islanders look to move up the SLC standings with eight matches remaining in the regular season.

The Islanders enter with a 6-13 record overall and sit at 4-4 in conference play. After a strong start in the league, they have dropped three matches in a row, falling 3-1 against Northwestern State, Lamar, and Stephen F. Austin. LSU New Orleans enters with a 2-19 record on the season and is 0-8 in the Southland. Texas A&M-CC has dominated the matchup between the two schools, as they lead the all-time series 15-2.

Virginia Van Der Werff has been on a tear the past two games as she has recorded 19 kills and 80 assists. She is fourth in the conference in hitting percentage and seventh in assists per set. Van Der Werff is approaching 1,500 career assists as she is now just 41 away. Kenna Buchanan led the Islanders with 14 kills in their last match against SFA. She is approaching 500 career kills as she currently sits at 465.

The matchup of the Islanders and Privateers features the two teams that allow the highest opposing hitting percentages in the league. New Orleans is currently on a ten-match losing streak and has collected just three set wins in conference play so far thru eight games this season.
