Islanders Return Home to Face Lamar

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi volleyball team returns to action tomorrow night as they host Lamar in Southland Conference play. The match is set for 6:30 p.m. inside the Dugan Wellness Center for a Pink Out Night as the Islanders enter with a 6-11 overall record and 4-2 SLC mark while Lamar is 5-14 on the season and 2-4 in conference.

The Islanders are coming off a 1-1 road trip last week as they started with a 3-1 win at East Texas A&M last Thursday. They followed that win up with a dominant first set at Northwestern State, but that momentum fizzled out as they ended up falling 3-1. The Cardinals also went 1-1 last week as they were at home for two matches against Houston Christian and Incarnate Word. They won their first match in five sets but fell against UIW in straight sets.

Erin Herrmann had her best game as an Islander against East Texas A&M as she finished with a team and career-high 13 kills while hitting .455 in the victory. She currently sits in second place in the Southland in season hitting percentage at .358. The Islanders had a versatile attack against the Lions as six different players finished with six or more kills in the match. Virginia Van Der Werff finished with eight kills and 15 assists while Ava Hight finished with a match-high 25 assists.

In the second game of the week, the Islanders fell to Northwestern State for just the second time in the last 14 meetings. Kenna Buchanan led the way for the Islanders as she finished with a team-high 15 kills. She has been constant for the Islanders as she has finished with double-digit kills in six of the last seven matches.

The Islanders sit in fifth place in the Southland Conference with their 4-2 record in the league. They sit two games behind UTRGV, who they haven't faced yet this season, and one game behind a three-way tie for second place. At 2-4, Lamar sits in a four-way tie for seventh place in the SLC.

Thursday's match can be seen live on ESPN+ with Steven King on the call, and live stats will also be available to follow along as the match happens.
