CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi soccer team returns home this weekend after a quick stop on the road earlier in the week, welcoming Northwestern State to town for a match on Sunday with kickoff scheduled for noon.
The Islanders (4-6-3, 1-3-1 SLC) were most recently taken down in San Antonio on Thursday, falling to current Southland Conference leader UIW by a final score of 3-0. This match brought them to the official halfway point of their conference slate, where they sit in a dead heat for the important seventh spot in the standings while possessing the tiebreaker thanks to their big 1-0 victory over Southeastern Louisiana in their most recent home match back on October 1. The Dr. Jack Dugan Family Soccer and Track & Field Stadium has been much kinder to the blue and green so far this year, as they hold a 4-2-3 record there as opposed to 0-4 on the road.
A&M-Corpus Christi now looks to get back on track against the Demons (6-6-0, 3-1-0 SLC), who currently sit in a tied for third in the standings with nine conference points after being tabbed as the favorites in the SLC Preseason Poll. Northwestern State is led on the attack by Paige Baumgartner, who sits one goal ahead of
Katie Porter for the conference lead with eight, and Emily Gundin, who is one of two others tied with Porter for seven. In net, the duties are split between Audrey Marfia and Saki Tsuchiya, who have combined to allow 37 goals in 12 matches on the year.
Sunday's match can be watched live on ESPN+ with
Steven King on the call, and the live stats can also be followed along as they happen.
