HOUSTON, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's tennis team saw seven matches in six days to open the 2026 campaign and remained completely untouched after sweeping Texas A&M-Texarkana in a pair of contests Saturday 7-0 and 5-0 in Houston.
The Islanders improve to 7-0 on the year, all without dropping a point. Today was done with 7-0 and 5-0 decisions for their sixth and seventh sweeps of the season.
The Islanders came out sharp in the first match, setting the tone with a clean sweep of doubles and carrying that momentum straight into singles play. All three doubles teams controlled play early to give A&M–Corpus Christi immediate command of the match.
Nicholas Niox Chateau and
Omar Suarez delivered efficient straight-set wins at the top of the lineup, while
Etienne Marty added another steady performance at No. 3.
Matthieu Coignet battled through a first-set tiebreak before his opponent retired, and
Mikel Garmendia and
Josef Zapletal closed the door with composed victories to secure the 7-0 result.
The Islanders backed it up in the second match with the same grinding approach. Doubles teams of
Matthieu Coignet/Garmendia, along with
Ethan Dasset/Zapletal, again set the edge, and the singles lineup followed with disciplined performances across the board.
Dasset delivered the most dominant showing with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3, while Marty, Zapletal and
Jules Moucquot each earned straight-set victories to seal the 5-0 sweep.
The Islanders will take a week break before getting back in action next Friday at Concordia before the men take on Texas in Austin next Saturday. Both the men and women will return for their home openers Feb. 11 against UTRGV.
