STEPHENVILLE, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi soccer team concludes its three-game road swing this week, wrapping up its longest trip of the year with a visit to Stephenville to take on Tarleton State.
The Islanders (2-2-2) earned a gritty win in their last match over the weekend, battling through inclement weather conditions to secure their first road victory of the season against Prairie View A&M. After getting the day started late due to a delay and failing to capitalize on many different scoring opportunities when the game finally started due in part to heavy rainfall, the team finally broke through on a penalty kick from sophomore
Cilia Leal in the 78
th minute to give it all the scoring needed to carry through the rest of the way. The goal was Leal's third of the year, matching her total in 20 games from her debut campaign in 2024, and it helped secure the Islanders' second shutout victory in the last three games.
A&M-Corpus Christi now sets its sites on the Texans (3-2-1), who have already squared off against four other Southland Conference opponents in UTRGV, HCU, Northwestern State and UIW so far this season, holding a current record of 2-1-1 in such contests. The Islanders started their all-time series with Tarleton back in 2023, winning the first meeting on the road by a final score of 3-1 behind an opening goal from current junior
Ashley Wilson before then playing to a scoreless draw last season in Corpus Christi.
