Khatevi Earns SLC Runner of the Week

FRISCO, Texas – After an individual win to start the season, sophomore Elizabeth Khatevi of the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's cross country team won Southland Conference Runner of the Week, announced by the league office Tuesday.

Khatevi raced her way to a first-place finish over opening weekend after the Islanders hosted Cross Country at the Seashore to begin the 2025 campaign. She picked up right where she left off from track season in the spring and took home the gold medal with a time of 14:02.16 that places her second in school history in the event. As a team, the Islanders had a second-place finish in the women's 4k, finishing behind Power 4 opponent SMU by a narrow margin of just three points.

It marked Khatevi's third career win after winning the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational in her first collegiate meet last season in addition to winning the individual Southland Conference Championship.

"That was a great start for Elizabeth, she has had a great summer," said head coach Bryan Jackson. "I'm excited to watch her growth this year as she faces bigger challenges."

The Islanders men and women will be back in action this Friday when they race in UT-Arlington's Gerald Richey UTA Invitational.
