ARLINGTON, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi cross country team hits the road for the first time in 2025, heading north to compete in the Gerald Richey UTA Invitational in Arlington on Friday morning.
The meet will get underway at 7:30 a.m. on Friday, starting with the men's 5k and then moving into the women's 5k shortly after. Included in the field are hosts UT Arlington as well as many other tough opponents from throughout the state of Texas, including TCU, Baylor, Tarleton State, Abilene Christian and Dallas Baptist.
The Islanders get right back into action after opening things up on their home turf at the Cross Country at the Seashore meet at the Padre Island National Seashore last week, putting together a very successful start to the new season. On the men's side, the team raced to a perfect score for the second straight year, securing each of the top nine finishers in the 6k and having all 12 of its racers finish within the top 15. On the women's side, the group earned a well-fought second-place finish in the 4k, coming in just three points behind an SMU squad that ranked sixth in the USTFCCCA's Preseason Rankings of the NCAA South Central Region.
In addition to these standout performances as a team, the Islanders also featured the individual champions for both races, with sophomore
Mathayo Bundotich emerging victorious for the men and sophomore
Elizabeth Khatevi for the women. Bundotich finished his time on the course with a mark of 19:23.67, which moved him up to fourth in program history in the event, and Khatevi crossed the line in 14:02.16, good for eight seconds clear of the next-best finisher and debuting her at second in the event in the school's record books. For her efforts, Khatevi was named the first Southland Conference Women's Runner of the Week for the 2025 season.
