HOUSTON – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi soccer team begins its ever-important run through conference play on Thursday evening, kicking off its Southland slate with a road matchup against Houston Christian at 7 p.m.
The Islanders (2-4-2) will be looking to capture the magic from their 2024-25 campaign, when they put together a stellar 6-2-2 record in conference play and took home a program best second-place finish in the Southland standings. This included a four-game winning streak to close out the regular season where they outscored their opponents by a combined score of 7-0 and a separate four-game unbeaten streak to open things up, which helped them earn a total of 20 points, the most in school history.
The first roadblock on A&M-Corpus Christi's quest for the top of the Southland comes in the form of the Huskies (5-4), who have already matched their win total from last season after emerging victorious in each of their last three matches against Southern, Prairie View A&M and Louisiana Tech. The two teams played to a scoreless draw at the Dr. Jack Dugan Family Soccer and Track Stadium in their respective conference openers last season, and in their last showdown in Houston in 2023, the Islanders came away with a 1-0 win on the strength of a game-winning goal in the 80
th minute. These matches have continued their pattern of recent success in the matchup, as they have played to a record of 3-2-2 in their last seven contests against HCU dating back to 2021.
