HUNTSVILLE, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi soccer team gets its longest road trip of the 2025 season started on Thursday at 7 p.m., kicking things off in Huntsville for a matchup against former conference rival Sam Houston State.
The Islanders (1-1-2) enter the road swing flying high after their most recent match on Sunday, when they capped off their opening homestand with a 6-0 blowout win over Texas A&M-San Antonio. This game marked the first time that the team scored at least that many goals in a single contest since taking home a win over Prairie View A&M by the same score on September 1, 2023, and by the time it was over, it had set new single-game program records in both total shots with 43 and corner kicks taken with 18. A&M-Corpus Christi's attack was led by sophomore
Cilia Leal, who was named the Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday after netting two goals and picking up the first brace of her collegiate career.
Up next for the Islanders are the Bearkats (0-1-1), who enter play on Thursday for their first game in 11 days after having a match against last week against Houston canceled due to weather. The two teams are no strangers to each other thanks to their years spent as Southland Conference opponents, with Sam Houston State holding the edge in the all-time series with a record of 6-2-2. The most recent meeting went the way of A&M-Corpus Christi, however, as the Islanders earned a 2-1 home victory on August 25 thanks in part to a goal scored by current senior
Mai-Lisa Atis in the 80
th minute.
Thursday's game can be watched live on ESPN+ with Jason Barfield (PxP) and Brooke Kirchhofer (Analyst) on the call from Huntsville. The live stats can also be followed along as they happen.
