CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi soccer team wraps up its first homestand of the season over the weekend, welcoming Texas A&M-San Antonio to town on Sunday at 7 p.m. in the first-ever meeting between the two system schools.
The Islanders (0-1-2) took home the same result in each of the first two home matches of the year, drawing by a score of 1-1 with both New Mexico last Sunday and Texas Southern on Thursday. In the latter contest, the team struck first blood for the first time on the season on a penalty kick by senior
Mai-Lisa Atis in the 56
th minute, but a late goal on the other side prevented it from taking home its first victory. The goal from Atis marked the forward's first of the season and the 13
th of her four-year career on the Island, moving her into sole possession of fourth place in program history.
A&M-Corpus Christi now sets its sights on earning its first win in the showdown against the Jaguars (0-0), who open up their schedule coming off of a 2024 campaign in which they posted an overall record of 6-8-1 and finished eighth out of 14 teams in the Red River Athletic Conference standings. The last time A&M-San Antonio faced off against a team in the Southland Conference came in their season opener last year, when it took home a 10-0 defeat at the hands of eventual champions Stephen F. Austin.
