CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi soccer team continues its run through nonconference play on Thursday, playing host to in-state foe Texas Southern at 7 p.m. in the second of three games during the opening homestand of the 2025 season.
In their most recent game on Sunday, the Islanders (0-1-1) picked up their first point of the year, coming from behind to earn a well-fought draw against New Mexico in the first-ever meeting between the two schools. The team trailed for much of the second half against the Lobos after conceding the opening goal of the match in the 41
st minute, but with just five minutes left to go, freshman
MyJoi Anderson put home the equalizer to help draw the score level, where it would stay for the rest of the afternoon. The goal was Anderson's first as an Islander in just her second career game, making it back-to-back contests where a newcomer found the net after sophomore
Vivianna Sykes did so in the opener on August 14.
The Islanders will now try to pick up their first win of the season against a Tigers (0-2) team who they have historically had a lot of success against in prior matchups, currently holding a record of 7-0-1 in the all-time series. The two met twice in the span of a week last season, with A&M-Corpus Christi earning a 2-0 road win in Houston in the first of these on September 12 before returning home with a 1-1 draw at the Dr. Jack Dugan Family Soccer and Track Stadium on September 18.
