KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced the recipients of the 2024-25 NABC Team Academic Excellence Awards and NABC Honors Court Thursday, and the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's basketball team had plenty of representation.
The NABC Team Academic Excellence Awards recognize programs that completed the 2024-25 academic year with a team GPA of 3.0 or higher. The Islanders earn the recognition after posting a 3.32 cumulative team GPA through 2024-25, marking the third straight year the program has been awarded the honor.
A&M-Corpus Christi was the only school in the Southland Conference to be distinguished with the award.
The NABC Honors Court, meanwhile, includes junior, senior and graduate student men's basketball players who finished the 2024-25 year with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher.
The Islanders saw 10 student-athletes make the NABC Honors Court for their academic performance. Those athletes include
Aaron Potter,
Christian Villegas,
Dian Wright-Forde,
Garry Clark,
Jaden Walker,
Kayden Crosby,
Leo Torbor,
Sheldon Williams,
Shilo Jackson, and
Stephen Giwa.
All posted GPAs of a 3.2 or higher for the 2024-25 academic year.
"I am incredibly proud of our guys for earning the NABC Team Academic Excellence Award for the third straight year," said head coach
Jim Shaw. "It speaks volumes about their commitment to the process of learning and investing in themselves and their futures beyond the court. Having 10 players named to the Honors Court and being the only program in the Southland Conference to achieve this says everything about the culture we've built at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. These young men continue to set the standard for academic excellence in today's world of college basketball."
