FRISCO, Texas – The Southland Conference released its 2024-25 men's basketball All-Academic Teams, and the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's basketball team saw three student-athletes recognized for their academic achievements.
Senior
Garry Clark was an automatic selection to the All-Academic First Team, his second straight year to be honored on that top academic team. Redshirt junior
Stephen Giwa and freshman
Isaac Williams were both tabbed to the Second Team.
"I am so proud of Garry, Steve and Isaac for their academic performance this past year!" said head coach
Jim Shaw. "These young men were able to exceed the academic standard set by the program and it's exciting to see their hard-work recognized by the SLC with Academic All-Conference Awards. That is not to mention all the other terrific student-athletes on our 2024-25 men's basketball team. As a group, our men's basketball team achieved excellence in the classroom with a 3.41 overall team GPA, seven undergraduate degrees conferred and one MBA degree awarded!"
Clark, an All-Conference First Team honoree, led the team in scoring for the second year in a row with 14.8 points per game. The St. Louis, Missouri native was the most efficient overall shooter in the conference with a .551 FG% on the year and led the league in defensive rebounding with 6.0 per game in conference play but was second in overall rebounding at an 8.7 mark. He graduated with a university studies degree this spring with a 3.35 GPA.
Giwa, from Houston, Texas, was a top rebounder and blocker for the Islanders and throughout the conference. He ranked top-20 in the league with 5.2 rebounds and 0.7 blocks per game, while also averaging 5.8 points per outing. Giwa was the most efficient shooter on the Islanders team this year with a 63.6 field-goal percentage. He posted a 3.66 cumulative GPA while working towards his MBA.
Williams, out of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, averaged 11.6 points per game in SLC play in his first collegiate season to rank second on the team as a freshman. He scored 10+ points in seven league contests, including 23 points in his conference debut. Additionally, Williams led the team with 71 assists on the year. He recorded a 3.44 cumulative GPA through his business degree.
