Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Champion Day for Tennis as Women Clinch South Texas Showdown, Men Claim 13th SLC Regular Season Title

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's and women's tennis teams spent all Saturday celebrating in their regular season finale against UTRGV, as two trophies were awarded following their matches as the women clinched the South Texas Showdown, presented by Rally Credit Union, with a 6-1 win while the men came out on top of the first-place battle 4-3 to claim the SLC Title.

The men (20-4, 5-0 SLC) lock up the No. 1 seed for the SLC Championships after securing their 13th regular season title and 23rd overall championship, the second most among any team or sport in the conference. It marks Islanders Tennis's 36th combined championship.

It comes after a perfect 5-0 conference season, their first undefeated record in SLC since the 2021 season. It was done in showy fashion, after a battled doubles point went in favor of the Islanders before the final three singles courts remaining were must-wins for the home team.

They didn't stray from the challenge, as all three pulled out gutsy victories to solidify the post-match celebration. Nicolas Trebuchet had the honor of clinching as he came away with a 6-4 score in a third decisive set.

The pairing of Nathan Favier/Matthieu Coignet also completed a 5-0 doubles record in conference play, today especially coming up big with a 7-5 win at No. 3 today. Favier, Trebuchet, and Josef Zapletal all finish with a 4-1 singles record in SLC play.

The men's championship may not be the only one Islanders Tennis sees this month, as the women completed an 8-1 conference season today with a bounce-back 6-1 victory over the Vaqueros after dropping the doubles point. Just one match back from first-place Northwestern State, the women are still in championship contention as the Lady Demons still have two matches remaining on their schedule.

The Islanders, with a lineup full of freshmen and sophomores, can be seeded no lower than No. 2 for the SLC Championships regardless of the remaining matches across the conference.

The women had Yana Mykytyn/Kseniya Ramanouskaya close out an 8-0 campaign at No. 1 doubles in conference play with a 6-4 win today. The Islanders would drop the doubles point, but rebound in singles as Mykytyn completed singles-sweep with a gritty 6-7 (4), 6-1, 11-9 victory at No. 3 singles.

Mykytyn and Josefa Fuenzalida both finish conference play with an 8-1 singles mark to lead the team. Leticia Tarocco closed out a 4-0 mark at No. 1 singles against SLC opponents.

The Islanders will now look towards the SLC Championships, held on April 22-26 hosted by Nicholls.
