THIBODAUX, La. – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's tennis team got their campaign in the Southland Conference Tournament underway Friday and opened with a dominate 4-0 win over No. 8 Nicholls to advance to tomorrow's semifinals.
The Islanders (21-4) rarely trailed in their quarterfinal matchup with No. 8 Nicholls, taking No. 2 and No. 3 doubles while leading at No. 1 and having every singles court up a set by the end for the ultimate 4-0 sweep.
It advances the top-seeded Islanders to the semifinals tomorrow at 12 p.m. against No. 5 New Orleans. The winner will go on to play for a championship on Saturday at 12 p.m.

Matthieu Coignet each took their respective courts in doubles play, with the former winning 6-2 at No. 2 while the latter pair clinched with a 6-3 win.
In singles, Suarez notched his second win of the match after solidifying a 6-3, 6-2 decision at No. 2 singles. Marty finished behind him within seconds after posting a pair of 6-2 sets at No. 5 singles.
The decisive blow came down to either court three or four as both
Nicolas Trebuchet and
Nicholas Niox Chateau were in their final game of set two. It was Trebuchet who finalized his last four points as he called match with a 6-3, 6-2 win at court three.
The men improve to 26-7 all-time in the Southland Conference Championships and are looking to tack on another tournament title to their conference-most 10. It will be their 18
th semifinal appearance.
