Men’s Tennis Drops to Challenging Rice Team

HOUSTON, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's tennis team took on a challenge Thursday and couldn't quite match No. 65 ranked Rice on the road to fall 4-0 at the George R. Brown Tennis Center.

It was the second opponent the Islanders (8-4) faced in their last three matches that raised an ITA Ranking, with Rice (8-4) checking it at No. 65 in the recent poll. The Owls proved their ranking, taking the 4-0 decision today from the Islanders.

"Our guys battled hard today, but Rice was simply too tough at home! We have been on the short end of some very tough matches where I thought we fought hard enough to win, but didn't quite stick with our process at the big moments. That's just something we have to fix, but we will because this is such a motivated and high character team," said head coach Steve Moore.

Battling it out in their second sets were Nathan Favier at No. 1 and Etienne Marty at No. 6 singles, both bouncing back from a first set loss as Favier was playing a tight 6-5 decision and Marty fought evened at 4-4 before play was called.

The Islanders will play another pair of road matches next, taking on Trinity in a doubleheader on March 12 in San Antonio. They will return home the next day for a doubleheader against Texas Wesleyan.
