Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Islanders Take Down New Orleans for Undefeated Conference Weekend

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's and women's tennis teams will leave Louisiana unscathed as both tallied another conference match in the victory column with wins over New Orleans Tuesday.

Both the women (18-2, 4-1 SLC) and the men (16-4, 2-0 SLC) had to fight hard in doubles, each emerging victorious for the early point on the board heading into singles play where they were able to finish the jobs. The women improve to 12-2 all-time over New Orleans while the men increase to a 13-3 record advantage over the Privateers.

It is the second conference win for both teams this weekend, as they completed a 2-0 road swing in Louisiana after they defeated Nicholls this past Saturday.

Ana Veroux/Adriana Jimenez Casado cleanly took a 6-0 win at No. 3 doubles and although Kseniya Ramanouskaya/Yana Mykytyn were battling it out up 5-4 at No. 1 doubles, the clinching court came at No. 2 where Leticia Tarocco/Josefa Fuenzalida saved a pair of breakpoints to take a 5-3 lead before breaking New Orleans' serve in the next game for the win.

Ramanouskaya didn't relent in singles play, taking two 6-0 sets at No. 5 singles. Casado won at No. 6 singles with a pair of 6-2 set decisions as one of three Islanders to go 2-0 individually on the day. Joining her were Fuenzalida at court four (6-3, 6-0) and Tarocco at court two (6-4, 6-1).

Mykytyn got the Islanders to six points after fighting back from dropping set one 6-2 and didn't waver to take the next two sets 6-3, 10-5 for the dual win.

On the men's side, Nathan Favier/Matthieu Coignet ensured the doubles point was equalized with a 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles. The clinch came from the middle court, as Omar Suarez/Etienne Marty outlasted their opponents for the 7-5 score and secure the doubles point for the Islanders.

Favier and Suarez defended the top two courts in singles play next, with Favier taking a 6-1, 7-6 (5) battle at No. 1 singles while the latter dug down for a 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 victory at court two.

Nicholas Niox Chateau was up 4-1 in the third set when his opponent retired at court four for the singles win. Josef Zapletal then closed out a 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 6 singles as the lengthy contest ended in favor of the Islanders.

The women will next play a make-up match with SFA on Sunday at 11 a.m. before both teams return to action next weekend when they host UIW and Lamar on April 5 and 7, respectively. They will close out the regular season at home against UTRGV on April 12.
