Islanders Sweep Southeastern for 28th Straight Conference Victory

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's tennis team took on their second conference opponent in as many days and came away with the 7-0 sweep over Southeastern Sunday at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center for the undefeated weekend.

The Islanders (12-1, 2-0 SLC) extend their winning streak against Southland opponents to 28 straight matches, having not dropped a league contest since 2022. They also improve to 17-1 all-time over Southeastern, continuing to not drop a match to the Lady Lions since 2007.

"This match was a lot closer than the score showed and we had to dig deep to pull out the doubles points and several other close matches!" said head coach Steve Moore. "I have a lot of respect for coach Jason Hayes and Southeastern, they are always a dangerous and well-coached team. These young Islanders showed so much heart and character, and they are improving with every match! They are coachable, disciplined, and so motivated! Most importantly, they are such high-character teammates who love and care about this team, and that really showed today! Go Islanders!"

Yana Mykytyn, Josefa Fuenzalida, and Juliette Jalai all notched their second conference singles victories of the weekend spanning courts four through six. Mykytyn made quick work with 6-1 sets while Fuenzalida had to battle back from going down a set to win hers in three. Jalai delivered the final blow that secured the sweep, grinding out a long 7-5, 7-5 match.

Ana Veroux got back in the win column, posting a pair of 6-4 sets from No. 1 singles for the victory. Leticia Tarocco came through with a 6-3 first set before dominating her second set 6-0 for the win at No. 2 singles. Kseniya Ramanouskaya rounded out the top three with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles.

The sweep wouldn't have come without opening with the doubles points, however, as No. 1 and No. 3 doubles secured it for the Islanders, both in 6-3 decisions. It was the same result from yesterday's doubles contest against McNeese, with Ramanouskaya/Mykytyn competing from the top spot and Veroux/Jalai finalizing at court three.

Next up, the Islanders will hit the road to play at SFA Saturday and Northwestern State next Monday for another weekend of conference play.
