CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Getting the 2025 conference schedule started on a high note, a young Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's tennis team took down McNeese in a grueling 4-3 battle Saturday at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.
The Islanders (11-1, 1-0 SLC) faced McNeese () in a rematch of last year's championship match that saw the former advance to the NCAA Tournament, and this year's result was no different as the home squad came away with the 4-3 victory for the young group's first look at conference play.
They showed out with six freshmen in the starting lineup, extending their winning streak against Southland opponents to 27 straight matches having not dropped a league contest since 2022.
"These girls showed a lot today. They dug some holes for themselves, but had the guys, heart, and character to dig out and find a way to win! They showed big courage in the biggest moments, and we are very proud of them! We've got to be more focused and go through our process with greater certainty, but I know they are fully committed to that! I am very proud of these high character Islanders," said head coach
Steve Moore.
