Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

Islanders Stay Unbeaten with Victory over Texas A&M-Kingsville

KINGSVILLE, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's tennis team posted a 6-1 triumph at Texas A&M-Kingsville on Thursday to keep an unblemished record for the season.

The Islanders (9-0) have now won their first nine straight matches of the season, doing so for the second time in three years after the program got out to an 11-0 start in 2023.

"I have a lot of respect for Texas A&M-Kingsville," said head coach Steve Moore. "This match is always tough! Doubles was a battle, and we were fortunate to win that point! I thought our girls showed great character rising up at the end of doubles and then making a statement in singles with heart and fight! I love the energy and determination these Islanders showed today. We are becoming more and more certain and confident in our process and understanding that it's about winning from the inside out with heart, not the outside in with shots! I'm very proud of these character, team-first Islanders."

The Islanders first grinded out the doubles point for an early 1-0 lead, with freshmen Kseniya Ramanouskaya and Yana Mykytyn moving to 8-0 at No. 1 doubles with the 6-3 win today. Freshmen Leticia Tarocco and Josefa Fuenzalida secured the doubles point with a gritty 7-5 win at court two.

Freshman Juliette Jalai similarly improved to 8-0 herself in singles play after a 6-4, 6-3 victory at court six today. She continues to lead the team in singles wins, contributing to all but one of the team's victories this season.

In addition to their doubles success, garnering solid wins in singles play today were Tarocco, Mykytyn, and Fuenzalida between courts three and five. Sophomore captain Ana Veroux also played tough back at No. 1 singles for a 6-3, 6-2 win at the top court as the Islanders came away with the 6-1 match victory.

It was the eighth ever meeting between the two programs, with the Islanders maintaining unbeaten against the Javelinas at 8-0 all-time.

The women will next return to their home court when they host UTSA on Monday, Feb. 10 at 1 p.m. at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center. They will be putting a 45-match home winning streak to the test, having not lost at home since the 2021 season.
