Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Islanders Fall to High-Ranking SMU

DALLAS, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's tennis team battled a tough SMU team and fell 4-0 on the road Tuesday at the Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex.

The Islanders (8-2) ran into an SMU (9-4) squad that proved their No. 63 ITA Ranking, as the visiting team couldn't take a point from the Mustangs. It is just their second loss of the season, and first away from home.

"We competed as hard as you can ask a team to compete today! We did a lot of positive things, but you've got to give credit to SMU, an elite team that is capable of making a deep NCAA run. They just beat Florida, and they were just too tough at home today! They are definitely one of the class programs I respect. But I love our guys are we are getting better every day! They have tremendous character, and they are so committed to being brothers, a true team, and outworking everyone! They say you're either winning or you're learning, and we did some learning today but we will be better for it!" said head coach Steve Moore.

It is the first time this season that an opponent took the doubles points from the Islanders, despite Omar Suarez/Etienne Marty fighting for a tight 5-5 score at No. 2 doubles before SMU clinched on courts one and three.

In singles play, the Mustangs were able to take courts two, three, and five for the match with two players nationally ranked individually. Marty and Nicolas Trebuchet were both working towards battling back from going down a set to lead the second set at 4-3 before play was called off.

The Islanders will continue their road trip in north Texas when they take on UT-Arlington tomorrow at 11 a.m.
